How can I make my glycerin soap smell less like French Fries?
We're making biodiesel in the lab and the from waste from the reaction we get glycerin. We've figured out how to make it liquid at room temperature, now we need to make it not smell like french fries and adjust the pH. Our main concern right now is the smell.
But then wont it smell like french fries and essential oils? Isn't the smell a product of the glycerin not being pure enough? Glycerin doesn't have a smell right?
Oooo Lemon might help regulate the pH as well. THANKS!!!!
Deodorise it by mixing with activated charcoal, which can then be removed by filtration or centrifugation.
Add an appropriate aromatic solvent or oil to mask any slight residual smell. Make sure that whatever you add is stable, does not react with other ingredients and is not an irritant.
ADDITIONAL INFO: Yes, you are correct, glycerol (glycerine) is almost odourless.
