Which Major?!?!?
I am a high school senior, and finding a major is daunting for me. I, at the moment, am relying on majoring in "Biology", for reasons I can't really understand.
My favorite classes in school have been ones where I am by myself - I enjoy being my own boss, but I enjoy taking direction too. I'm not a leader. I don't love computers or writing that much. My favorite subject is French - I adore it. But I don't think majoring In French would be a ticket to a career in which I would make a decent amount of money. I would LOVE to travel, but making personal relations with others is not a strong suit... I am somewhat shy. I am interested in history, animals (especially dinosaurs) and would like a career where I'm not always behind a desk.
(My mom suggested marine biology, but I don't LOVE it, like some people do. The only thing I LOVE is French - but I don't want to be a teacher!)
Is finding my dream career impossible??

Have you thought about archeology or anthropology? Sounds like something you might be interested in, given the interests you listed. Lots of travel available in each, no desk job for sure, discovering "new" old things, etc.

As for those "career assessments" I personally think they are a waste of time - definitely don't pay for one. I'm 32 years old and have a degree in something I hate (drafting) and am now going back to school for nursing....I can't tell you how many times I have "changed my mind" over the past several years. You are not required to know exactly what you want to spend the rest of your life doing at this moment. Find what you love and follow the path it takes you on. When I was a teenager, I wanted to be a lawyer, then I saw a crime story and decided I wanted to be a forensic pathologist, then I decided I wanted to be a cop, after that I wanted to be a construction manager (thats when I got my degree in drafting). Now, I'm older, wiser and KNOW what I want to do and that is nursing - so I'm back in school these many years later. I suggest you make a list of the things you love and don't love the most and take them to a college counselor and ask them to help you find a career possibility based on that list. Hopefully, he or she can help guide you into something you're passionate about.
